The Colomba potato is a truly versatile potato — it can be used in many ways:

• For fresh potato salad — because it doesn't fall apart after cooking, remaining sliceable. 

• For roasted potatoes, French fries — suitable for this due to its good texture and taste. 

• For layered dishes, side dishes — as it holds its shape well and doesn't fall apart when baked.

• For mash, vegetable purees — although it's best to look for a non-floury type of potato for mash, Colomba can be classified as "medium-firm," so it's also good for mixed purposes

About Élő Tisza

The aim of the Association for the Living Tisza (Szövetség az Élő Tiszáért Egyesület) is to improve the livelihoods of those living in the Tisza river basin, increase its flood and environmental safety, and preserve and enhance the ecological values of the Tisza, so that the inhabitants of this region can live in good quality of life and safety. The Association aims to spread farming models that realize the sustainable coexistence of humans and the river: they are appropriate for the characteristics of the landscapes, enrich the rich diversity of life, and promote the prosperity of the people living in the region. To achieve this goal, they invited the municipalities, farmers, representatives of science, civil organizations, and anyone who wants to contribute to the prosperity of this region in the Tisza Plain to cooperate. They work not only for the Tisza and its floodplain but also for those living in the valleys of its tributaries, such as the Túr, Szamos, Kraszna, Bodrog, Hernád, Sajó, Körösök, Maros, and Zagyva, and for the natural values found there. This natural unit, the Tisza Plain, one-third of Hungary's territory, and the areas on this side of the Carpathian watershed – after Széchenyi – are collectively called the Tisza Valley. This is the primary operational area of SZÖVET.

The task is not small: the region is regularly threatened by floods, inland waters, and droughts, our natural values are at risk, and we also find here the country's most economically and socially disadvantaged regions. Unemployment is significant, and incomes are low. The proportion of elderly people in the villages is increasing, and many young people are moving away. Institutions in small settlements (kindergarten, school, doctor's office, post office) are being closed down in more and more places. In many places, railway transport has been abolished, and in numerous places, even bus services have been discontinued.

All these problems are not independent of each other. SZÖVET aims to develop and implement solutions that can address these issues comprehensively. The key to the development of the Tisza Valley is for its inhabitants to wisely manage the opportunities provided by nature. This can simultaneously bring better livelihoods, enhance our natural values, and even help mitigate the difficulties caused by extreme weather. The Association strives to help not only in theory but also in everyday life, so that all this can become a reality, not just a dream.
