Bordered by the bluish-grey Pacific Ocean to the west, the majestic Andes in the middle, and the endless Amazon basin to the east – Peru is wonderful for many reasons.

Coffee cultivation in Peru began in the mid-1700s and gradually increased, but during this period (until the 20th century), coffee was mostly grown for domestic consumption, with little being exported. That was until Europe took notice of the coffees they produced and an international demand for high-quality Peruvian coffee emerged. Thanks to successful European investments, Peru was put on the international coffee map, and its exports continuously grew, until England sold the lands used for coffee production to local farmers. Of course, Peru still produces millions of bags of coffee annually and is the world's largest fair trade coffee exporter.

The fair trade movement in Peru began sometime before 2003 and remains a significant characteristic of Peruvian coffee farms to this day. Thanks to fair trade, farm workers and owners receive fair payment for their produce.

Coffee is grown everywhere in the northern, central, and southern regions of Peru. Cajamarca is one of Peru's northern departments, located in the vast Andes mountains, which was once home to the Incas. Cajamarca's coffee industry is built on local small-scale producers with 2-3 hectare farms; large estates are rare in the region. Most coffee growers in this part of Peru practice organic farming, and the best coffees come from these sustainable, environmentally friendly small farms.

This Peruvian coffee is mild, round, and balanced, very smooth, with a distinct body, nutty, cocoa notes, medium acidity, and elegant sweetness.
